He and his wife, Donna, have been married for over thirty years and have nurtured their son into adulthood. The family initially moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1999 but returned to Plano, Texas, in 2017, where they continue to reside.
Reed's professional journey began in 1986 at Kinlaw Oil Corporation, where his fascination with the oil industry quickly turned into a passionate career. His commitment and hard work allowed him to learn the business and ascend through the ranks thoroughly. After a decade at Kinlaw, he embarked on an independent path.
In 1996, Cagle founded his own company in Dallas, Texas, and a year later, he established Heartland Energy Inc., which later became known as HEI. As president and CEO, he collaborated with joint venture partners and a variety of energy professionals, including operators, drilling contractors, and engineers. The company specializes in sponsoring ventures and exploring gas, oil, and mineral sites. His initial venture into the drilling service sector came in 2006 when he partnered with Midcontinent Drilling to finance and construct a 2000-horsepower drilling rig capable of reaching depths up to 20,000 feet.
His ventures expanded into the mining industry in 2011, starting with a mining concession in Oregon that yielded 89,000 ounces of gold. He also ventured into mining in Chile, where he played a crucial role in the funding and operation of a gold and copper processing facility in Copiapo. His innovative contributions to the industry include developing a proprietary process that effectively removes and neutralizes toxic substances from liquids during metal recovery. This technology not only enhanced the safety of mining operations but also set a new standard in the industry.
Today, Reed continues to reside in Plano, Texas, offering his expertise as a consultant not only to local oil and energy companies but also to businesses in various other industries. He works closely with midsize independent companies and a major landscaping company serving East and Central Texas.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Cagle enjoys an active lifestyle. He is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fly fishing, and cycling. He advocates for the health benefits of cycling for both children and adults. Additionally, he holds a private pilot's license, which allows him to pursue his passion for flying. He is also deeply involved in his local church, often organizing men's fellowship activities due to his outgoing nature and leadership skills. His golf skills are notable as well; he plays with a four handicap and actively participates in charitable golf tournaments, often alongside his son.
Reed is also the founder and principal officer of Outreachers, a Christian, non-denominational charity organization focused on helping individuals lead fulfilling lives through initiatives that promote spirit, self, and sustainability. The organization operates in Colorado, Texas, and internationally, providing financial aid and constructing essential facilities like houses, churches, schools, and medical centers. One of their crucial fundraising activities is the Chip-In charity golf tournament.
